July 3^rd – Red, White and BOOM! This Columbus Independence Day celebration features the most recognized firework display in the Midwest. Enjoy delicious food, craft beers, live music, a children’s play area, a downtown parade, and the largest fireworks display for miles around. Downtown street closings begin at 11:00 a.m., with festivities beginning at noon.

July 4^th – Worthington Family Picnic & Fireworks: Enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth on the lawn of Thomas Worthington High School. The celebration includes food, live music, games and much more! Event begins at 4:00 p.m. with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.

July 4^th – City of Dublin Independence Day Celebration: The legendary vocalist John Fogerty will headline the City of Dublin’s Independence Day Celebration. A full day of fun begins with parade at 11:00 a.m., live music begins at 4:30 p.m. John Fogerty takes the stage at 8:00 p.m. New this year: All guests four and older will need a Stadium wristband to enter. Please see the Admission Policy on the City of Dublin website.

July 4^th – Upper Arlington Fourth of July Celebration: This all-day, family-friendly event begins with a parade at 9:00 a.m., the “Party in the Park” at 5:00 p.m., and an impressive fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.

July 10-12 – Ohio Wine Festival at North Market: Celebrating its 14^th year! The Ohio Wine Festival brings 20 of Ohio’s finest wineries together at North Market. Various ticket levels are available, starting at $20 in advance, $25 at the door. All admissions include a $5 North Market Food Voucher, 10 wine tasting tickets, and a souvenir wine glass, while supplies last. ID required, wine tasters must be 21 and older.

July 17 – A Taste of Worthington: This hometown, outdoor food festival has a block-party atmosphere while being family-friendly. The event promotes local restaurants, caterers, bakeries and others in the food industry. Play area for the kids includes a bounce-house and activities.

July 17-18 – Columbus Jazz and Ribs Fest: 3 big days! Experience 3 stages of live music, featuring local, regional and international jazz artists. Savor the best bbq ribs, chicken and more from around the country. Free admission, buy your food and drink as you wish.

July 18-25 – Franklin County Fair: Located in Hilliard, this traditional Ohio county fair brings you classic family fun. Enjoy exhibits, farm animals, carnival rides and games, plus special entertainment every day.

July 25 – Whitehall Food Truck and Fun Festival: Sample the wares of 25 different food vendors, while enjoying live music and entertainment on two stages. There is also an eclectic marketplace and a kid’s area.

Backyard barbecues, spectacular fireworks displays, pool parties and family get-togethers are all activities that come to mind when we think of July 4th. The various communities in the Columbus Metro area make it easy to enjoy all of these festive activities because they’re willing to throw the public parties where we can partake. Here is a quick list of what’s going on in the area this holiday week:

“Let Freedom Rock”
July 4th, 8:00am-10:30pm
Dublin Coffman High School
Dublin’s Independence Day celebration will feature a free concert by Joe Walsh, the annual Sherm Sheldon Fishing Derby and a parade that marches through the town’s historic district at 11:00am. The entertainment will continue on into the evening with live music and fireworks. This is the ideal, family-friendly celebration for suburbanites who want to celebrate with their community.

Central Ohio Symphony: July 4th Concert
July 4th, 7:30pm-10:00pm
Phillips Glen, Ohio Wesleyan University
Music lovers everywhere will appreciate this patriotic extravaganza tomorrow night. Featuring music from film and stage as well as patriotic songs from American composers, you’ll get to celebrate our country through song at this concert event. The best part? It’s free.  It’s not a bad way to spend the 4th of July, and it’ll be a nice change from the typical tradition of fireworks and barbecues.

Glorious Fourth: Independence Day Celebration
July 4th, 12:00pm-5:00pm
Ohio Village, Columbus, OH
Those who want a more historic, family-friendly celebration will want to participate in the Glorious 4th festivities, which will take place in a re-created 19th century village. You can experience patriotic speeches, a Grand Procession, Muffins baseball, a concert from the Ohio Village Singers and a community dance. Those with a hefty appetite can even participate in a pie-eating contest, if they wish. At just $10 per adult, $9 per senior and $5 per child, this event is incredibly affordable for large families.

This is just a few of the many community-wide celebrations happening all over the Columbus metropolitan area. They’ll provide a nice change of pace from the typical backyard barbecue and pool party.
