Post-recession building activity has shown steady progress, with 2013 construction spending reaching just over $32 million, and 2012 construction spending reaching $27 million.

Overall, Franklin County’s 2014 construction activity included 3,205 inspections and 85 building permits.

Please keep in mind that this is just a small sampling of Central Ohio building activity. Franklin County’s building services track construction activity in 17 unincorporated townships and 6 contract jurisdictions. The numbers above are also confined to residential dwellings.

In comparison, the City of Columbus issued 800 building permits for family dwellings in 2014.

Nationwide, builders are feeling confident about 2015 home sales. The National Association of Home Builders reports that the industry outlook for 2015 home sales is at the highest level in 10 years. The current challenge for the construction industry is a shortage of skilled workers, which has tempered the pace of new development.

Metro Columbus enjoys a strong economy and good employment levels, along with robust universities and excellent cultural and recreational amenities. Homes in Central Ohio are likely to be in demand for the foreseeable future!
