The days are getting shorter, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in Central Ohio! September brings us a full month of festivals and special events around Metro Columbus. We’ve picked a few of them to share with you!

Sept 5 – Oct 25: Ohio Renaissance Festival: Located in Waynesville, this 30-acre site features an authentically re-created 16^th-Century English village. The entertainment includes a variety of live performances, such as jousting, swordsmanship, comedy, music and more. Browse the wares of over 140 artisans and feast on delicious food and drink.

Sept 5-7: Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival: Celebrate the Labor Day Weekend with 3 days of great music, food, games and rides for the kids, boat races and a car show. The Labor Day parade steps off from Canal Winchester High School at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

Sept 7: Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival: Over 200 artists participate in the festival, featuring unique creations in a variety of mediums. This family-friendly event includes interactive performances and activities, along with a selection food and refreshments.

Sept 11-13: Hot Times Community Arts & Music Festival: This lively Columbus street fair features beautiful arts and crafts, vintage clothing, antiques, rare treasures, art cars, live music and delicious food.

Sept 12: Old Hilliardfest Art & Street Fair: Hilliard packs a lot of fun into one day! Enjoy arts and crafts, a car show, a sunflower show, live music, carnival rides and games, and delicious food.

Sept 13: Powell Street Market: Explore an eclectic collection of vendors in Downtown Powell, featuring antiques, hand-made art, specialty products and food!

Sept 16: Slice of Columbus: Enjoy great pizza for a wonderful cause! The Columbus Commons is home to Central Ohio’s largest pizza event, featuring great pizza from local shops, and a best pizza competition. There are activities for the kids and live music throughout the day. Proceeds benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Sept 18-20: Country Living Fair: Country Living Magazine comes to life at Ohio Village in Columbus, with informative seminars and demonstrations to help you beautify your home and lifestyle. Shop vintage and handmade items, enjoy delicious food, and get a chance to meet the magazine editors.

Sept 20: New Albany Classic: Thrill to equestrian skill at the famed show jumping competition, the Invitational Grand Prix. Family Day offerings include live concerts, carnival rides, a petting zoo, activities for the kids and plenty of food vendors.

Sept 25-27: Columbus Oktoberfest: A trio of century-old historic pavilions provide the setting for this spirited festival at the Ohio Expo Center. Enjoy two stages of live music, great food and beer, arts and crafts, and a merchant market.

Sept 26: Old Worthington Market Day: Downtown Worthington hosts over 250 exhibitors and artists during this popular event, which features handmade and one-of-a-kind items. Explore booths by community partners, local businesses and civic organizations, and enjoy a variety of food from local restaurants and vendors.

Enjoy August Events in Central Ohio!

There’s still plenty of summer fun left in Central Ohio! Before the back-to-school frenzy takes over, explore these popular festivals and events taking place during August!

July 31 – Aug 2: Dublin Irish Festival: One of Ohio’s most popular events, the Dublin Irish Festival features 7 stages with 65 live acts including musical performances, dancers, and more. Immerse yourself in Irish traditions and lore while feasting on delicious food and beverages.

July 31 – Aug 9: Ohio State Fair: A tradition of family fun for 165 years! The Ohio State Fair brings you the best of Ohio agriculture and live entertainment. Sample food-on-a-stick, scream down the Giant Slide, get dizzy on carnival rides and witness the pig races. See the State Fair website for daily specials and headliners.

Aug 7 – 8: Canal Winchester Blues and Ribfest: This two-day summer street celebration features live blues music, succulent ribs and a variety of other foods, plus children’s activities and a beer & wine garden.

Aug 14 – 15: Columbus Summer Beerfest: Cold beer for a good cause! Choose from over 300 craft beers, and sample wares from some of the best food trucks in Columbus. Live music. All proceeds benefit the Animal Rescue Partners, supporting regional and local animal rescue. Advance tickets offer a discount; special tickets available for designated drivers. Celebrate responsibly!

Aug 14 – 16: Columbus Food Truck Festival: The Columbus Commons gets taken over by food trucks during this three-day event! Choose from traditional American fare, ethnic specialties and gourmet delights from over 70 vendors. There’s also live music and entertainment, along with a variety of arts & crafts.

Aug 27 – 30: Obetz Zucchini Festival: Bigger every year! The Obetz Zucchini Festival brings you musical entertainment, a cruise-in and motorcycle show, pageants, a petting zoo, carnival rides, and of course, zucchini! Free admission. Parade takes place on Saturday, August 29 at 11:30 a.m.

Explore Columbus Area Events and Attractions!

Metro Columbus offers plenty of events, attractions and things to do. We’ve put together a spring sampling for you to explore. Be sure to include some of these favorites in your weekend plans!

Capital City Half Marathon, May 2, 2015. 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Whether you are a participant or a spectator, the Capital City Half Marathon offers a great time. 16,000 runners and walkers participate in this annual event. The Columbus Commons Fun Zone and after-race “Champagne and Chocolate” are always crowd-pleasers. Enjoy food, drink, an energetic crowd, and a post-race concert. Parking is available at the Columbus Commons Garages, but you should register a spot in advance! Also arrive early; nearby roads will close for the race.

Columbus Asian Festival, May 23-24, 2015. 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This free event is an Asian cultural celebration filled with food, music, live performances, merchants, demonstrations and educational exhibits. Visually stunning and always entertaining, the Columbus Asian Festival draws around 50,000 visitors! Note, the Dragon Boat races take place on May 17.

Anthony Thomas Chocolates Tour, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This one-hour tour will take you through the wonders of this modern candy factory. You’ll see the art of candy making from start to finish in the 152,000 square-foot production area. Ready for chocolate? The tour conveniently ends at the 2,500 square-foot retail shop, where you can purchase treats to take home.

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Don’t miss the Blooms & Butterflies exhibit, with hundreds of beautiful butterflies to be seen in the Pacific Island Water Garden. New butterflies are released daily. There are also dynamic exhibits featuring the flora and fauna of a rainforest, a desert, and a Himalayan mountain. Enjoy 88 acres of landscaped gardens and green space.

4. Sports Ohio. Located in nearby Dublin, this indoor/outdoor sports activity center offers a cure for winter blues! There are open play dates for all ages, as well as team-centered events. Enjoy basketball, dodge ball, inflatable slides and more.

5. COSI – Center of Science and Industry. Experience immersive-screen movies, explore science, and choose your adventure at COSI! There is always something new to see. Expand your mind while entertaining the whole family at COSI.
