Summer may be over, but the fun never ends in Central Ohio! Get into the spirit of fall with this list of upcoming fall festivals and indoor exhibits. These are a great way to spend your time this September!

Sept. 9: The Monarch Art Project: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Franklin Park Conservatory, create collaborative art with the colors and patterns of Monarch butterflies! This is free with admission, and great for families. You can also enjoy butterfly releases at 1 and 3 p.m. daily.

Sept. 8-9: Lithopolis Honeyfest: If you love honey, you’ll love this event! Watch honey being extracted from the comb, observe hive inspection, see a queen and her colony behind glass and more, all while sampling honey in a variety of colors, flavors and textures.

Sept. 16-17: 43rd Annual Short North Tour of Homes & Gardens: Tour the most unique homes in Columbus! On Sept. 16, attend the pre-tour party at the ‘Circus House’ from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday is the general tour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From penthouses to treehouses, you’ll see a bit of everything!

Sept. 16-17: Grove City Arts in the Alley: This free event takes place at Grove City Town Center and features more than 100 juried exhibitors. Browse and shop among art, photography, jewelry, crafts, glasswork, pottery and more. Enjoy live entertainment as well!

Sept. 16-23: Delaware County Fair: There is something for everyone at the Delaware County Fair! Enjoy carnival rides, a petting zoo, a slew of live entertainment, exhibits, competitions, amazing food and more. The All Horse Parade takes place on Sept. 10 in downtown Delaware.

Sept. 22-24: Columbus Oktoberfest: This takes place at Ohio Expo Center. Soak in German music, dancing, food, beer and snacks while shopping among vendors. Bring kids to Kinderplatz, where they can enjoy a variety of kid-friendly activities. It is all held in open-air pavilions, so you can enjoy in any weather!

Sept. 30: Applefest at Lawrence Orchards: Apple season runs throughout the fall season, but on Sept. 30, Lawrence Orchards holds an old-fashioned festival with crafts, a hay maze, horse-drawn wagon rides, pony rides, bluegrass music and plenty of apples.

Midwest Holiday Antiques Show. May 28, Ohio Expo Center, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. One of the largest shows of its kind! Browse and buy antique holiday decorations and figurines. Nostalgia galore!

Memorial Day Parade – Worthington. May 29. Parade steps off at 10:00 a.m. Route begins at East Dublin-Granville Road and proceeds south on High Street to Cemetery Drive. Memorial ceremony follows at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Golf Tournament – Dublin. May 29 – June 4. Muirfield Village Golf Club. The tournament is a major PGA Tour event featuring the best golfers in the world!

July 3^rd – Red, White and BOOM! Downtown Columbus kicks off the holiday weekend with food, live music, a children’s play area, a downtown parade, and the largest fireworks display in Central Ohio. Street closings begin at 11:00 a.m., with festivities beginning at noon.

July 4^th – Worthington Family Picnic & Fireworks: Enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth on the lawn of Thomas Worthington High School. The celebration includes food, live music, games and much more! Event begins at 4:00 p.m. with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.

July 4^th – City of Dublin Independence Day Celebration: Famous for festivals, Dublin celebrates American independence with all-day events. Fishing derby at 8:00 a.m., parade at 11:00 a.m., and evening festivities including live music beginning at 4:30 p.m. Special performance by Earth, Wind and Fire at 8:00 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9:50 p.m.

July 4^th – Westerville Parade and Fireworks: The City of Westerville features a parade at 1:00 p.m. and a fireworks extravaganza at 10:00 p.m.

July 4^th – Upper Arlington Fourth of July Celebration: This all-day, family-friendly event begins with a parade at 9:00 a.m., the “Party in the Park” at 5:00 p.m., and an impressive fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.

July 4^th – City of Groveport Independence Day Events: Continual family entertainment is the hallmark of this festival. Kid’s parade at 9:00 a.m., traditional parade at 11:00 a.m., followed by kid’s events throughout the afternoon. Live music begins at 5:00 p.m. Fireworks at dusk.

This is just a sampling of the holiday events happening around central Ohio! Check your hometown community website for more information about events in your area.

If you’re celebrating Independence Day at home, please remember that it’s illegal to set off fireworks yourself. Only small, novelty items, such as glo-worms and party-poppers, are permitted for consumer use; but even these are not free of hazard. Please see the Ohio State Bar Association website for information about Ohio’s fireworks laws.

It’s truly an eye-opening experience. The activity is designed to show how luck is a large factor in whether or not you are able to enjoy a holiday meal in this country. For an educational and inspiring presentation, this is one community event you won’t want to miss this holiday season.

2012 Columbus Turkey Trot

A Columbus area tradition for over 20 years, the Turkey Trot is a beautiful, scenic run that starts and ends at Lane Avenue Shopping Center and takes you around the beautiful campus of The Ohio State University. The 5 mile or 2 mile run or walk is the perfect excuse to burn some of those extra calories before filling up on turkey and stuffing. You’re running to support the Easter Seals and the fight against autism, so your participation is for a great cause! The first 1,000 men and 1,000 women to finish the run will also get a Kroger Pumpkin Pie for their Thanksgiving dessert.

When I work with my Buyer Clients on finding their perfect home, I have to sell the community to them. If one of my clients isn’t happy with the neighborhood that they choose to move to, then they won’t ever be fully satisfied in their home, either. One of the best things about the Columbus area is that the people who live there are so supportive of one another. Thousands of women are affected by breast cancer each year, and it’s our job as a community to support our loved ones, friends and neighbors who go through it. Currently my wife is undergoing breast cancer radiation treatment so I know first hand as a support partner the importance to find a cure!

Each of the fun events happening around town this month is designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise money for research. Here are some of the ones that look particularly promising:

Join Columbus Marathon for the Cure. On Sunday, October 16^th, a team represented by Komen Columbus will be participating in the Columbus Marathon. Whether you run, walk, want to do half of the distance or the whole thing, you can join their team and get moving for breast cancer! If you’re not interested in participating in the marathon itself, you can volunteer from 6-9:30am at the Mile 2 Water Stop.

Eat a slice at Pizza Rustica. On Wednesday, October 19^th between 6:00-9:00pm, have some pizza at Pizza Rustica. Located at The Ohio State University, this delicious eatery is donating 15% of all sales to Komen Young Professionals Programming. Whether you eat at the restaurant or have it delivered, you will be benefitting a great cause.

Have a drink at Hot Pink Happy Hour. Even if you don’t frequent happy hours on a regular basis, head to Woodlands Tavern in Grandview on Thursday, October 27^th. From 6:00-8:00pm, rock out with the Hot Pink Racers and enjoy fantastic happy hour specials, including $2.00 drafts. All proceeds of the event will benefit Komen Columbus.

Upper Arlington’s annual arts festival is a one-day, juried arts festival hosted by the City of Upper Arlington’s Cultural Arts Division. Considered to be the city’s signature event, you can expect to see a turnout of about 25,000 people each year, ideal for meeting your new neighbors. The festival’s location, the beautiful Northam Park, provides the perfect backdrop for over 200 local, regional and national artists to showcase their work. Besides gawking at various jewelry, glassware, paintings and sculptures, you can also enjoy a number of family-friendly activities, including an entertainment stage with local, live performers, arts and crafts activities for children and adults, local cuisine and a silent art auction. This is a local festival not to be missed this holiday weekend.

The 40th Annual Greek Festival

Taking place this Friday, August 31st through Monday, September 3rd, this Greek Festival is the premier celebration of the culture and ancestry of Greece in the Columbus area. Enjoy music, dancing, Greek pastries and a number of exhibits showcasing the country’s history and culture. The event promises to be an eye-opening and enjoyable experience, and you can shop the Cathedral’s stores while you’re there. Those who are looking for a unique and educational Labor Day experience will want to stop by this long-running annual event!

Between these two festivals, backyard barbecues, pool parties and friends and family, you should have plenty to do this weekend in Columbus! The various communities in the Columbus Metro area make it easy to enjoy all of these festive activities because they’re willing to throw the public parties where we can partake. Here is a quick list of what’s going on in the area this holiday week:

“Let Freedom Rock”
July 4th, 8:00am-10:30pm
Dublin Coffman High School
Dublin’s Independence Day celebration will feature a free concert by Joe Walsh, the annual Sherm Sheldon Fishing Derby and a parade that marches through the town’s historic district at 11:00am. The entertainment will continue on into the evening with live music and fireworks. This is the ideal, family-friendly celebration for suburbanites who want to celebrate with their community.

Central Ohio Symphony: July 4th Concert
July 4th, 7:30pm-10:00pm
Phillips Glen, Ohio Wesleyan University
Music lovers everywhere will appreciate this patriotic extravaganza tomorrow night. Featuring music from film and stage as well as patriotic songs from American composers, you’ll get to celebrate our country through song at this concert event. The best part? It’s free.  It’s not a bad way to spend the 4th of July, and it’ll be a nice change from the typical tradition of fireworks and barbecues.

Glorious Fourth: Independence Day Celebration
July 4th, 12:00pm-5:00pm
Ohio Village, Columbus, OH
Those who want a more historic, family-friendly celebration will want to participate in the Glorious 4th festivities, which will take place in a re-created 19th century village. You can experience patriotic speeches, a Grand Procession, Muffins baseball, a concert from the Ohio Village Singers and a community dance. Those with a hefty appetite can even participate in a pie-eating contest, if they wish. At just $10 per adult, $9 per senior and $5 per child, this event is incredibly affordable for large families.

This is just a few of the many community-wide celebrations happening all over the Columbus metropolitan area. They’ll provide a nice change of pace from the typical backyard barbecue and pool party.
