New Albany is an affluent city located in the northeast corner of Franklin County, with a small portion extending into Licking County. It is located 25 minutes from downtown Columbus, and is home to about 8,000 residents. New Albany is known for its bucolic estates, excellent schools, and prosperous community.

In fact, if you are a relocating professional searching for the quintessential luxury home, New Albany is an excellent place to begin. Large, distinctive brick homes of Georgian architecture are found at one million dollars and up. There are also subdivisions with homes priced in under $300,000. Development and architectural controls are carefully implemented, which helps support home demand.

New Albany provides an abundant quality of life. The New Albany-Plain Local Joint Park District manages an impressive network of parks, and 30 miles of leisure trails connecting to neighboring communities. Walkable destinations and gathering places have been designed with social opportunity in mind.

The New Albany Country Club and New Albany Links courses offer plenty of challenge to golf aficionados. Equestrian enthusiasts enjoy the New Albany Classic, a USEF/FEI-sanctioned event held at the estate of retail clothing mogul Leslie Wexner. This year’s New Albany Classic takes place Sunday, September 21. Top riders from around the world will be competing for $125,000 in prize money.

If you’re looking for something less posh, the Taste of New Albany is an excellent way to sample local flavors while getting to know people. The annual culinary event draws thousands of residents and visitors to Market Square in downtown New Albany. This year’s Taste happens on August 3rd, 2014.

Parts of New Albany are affected by the Rocky Fork Blacklick Accord. Developed over the course of two years starting in 1995, the Accord was adopted in 1997. It is an ongoing multi-jurisdictional land use and development policy guide covering portions of Columbus, New Albany and Plain Township – almost 11,000 acres worth! Panel members review development proposals and zoning applications for compliance with the Accord plan. Our broker, Andrew Show, was appointed by then-Columbus Mayor Greg Lashutka in 1995. Andrew Show was reappointed in 1997, and named its first co-chair for actual implementation. He remained as co-chair during his tenure, continuing under current Mayor Michael Coleman until the end of 2010 when term limits ended his involvement.

New Albany’s distinctive school system

New Albany schools have an excellent reputation and feature a “central learning campus”. They are recognized for strong academic programs and performance at the local, state and national levels. Each school in the district has been awarded a national Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. For the past five years, the district has received an “excellent” rating from Ohio Department of Education. According to Columbus Monthly, New Albany ranks among the best of 24 suburban school districts in central Ohio.
