The weather is getting warmer in Columbus, OH, and with that comes an upswing in activity around the area. As an Exclusive Buyer’s Broker, I think that it’s incredibly important to keep up with what is happening all around Columbus and its surrounding communities during the summertime. This is the time when many people relocate. It’s a transition time between school years, so it gives families plenty of time to get acclimated before the weather gets cold and the slow pace of summer starts to go faster. Enjoying some of the many events that the area has to offer this season will allow people who are new to the community to get settled in and see what their home has to offer.

I’ve done a little research and found that there is plenty to keep you entertained this season in the Columbus, OH area! Here are a few of the main highlights:

Enjoy a Marvelous Menagerie. The Columbus Museum of Art is the perfect place for history buffs to go during a hot day, and this season is no exception. Enjoy The Radical Camera, a photography exhibit that showcases New York City from the 1930s to the 1940s. The poverty, racial inequality and social injustice of the city’s streets during these decades are brilliantly captured on film, creating an exhibit that will stir your emotions. Archaeology aficionados will also enjoy the Marvelous Menagerie, an ancient Roman mosaic masterpiece from Lod, Israel. Believed to have belonged to a wealthy Roman, this artistic achievement depicts many animals and beasts and has been wonderfully conserved for your viewing pleasure. This is just a few of many of the museum’s current exhibitions. Pay the place a visit and see the rest for yourself!

Take a beer tour. While not the most family-friendly of activities, from time to time it’s fun to try out some local breweries! There are many local beer joints that have opened up in the area, including Buckeye Lake Brewery, which opened in February of this year and Zauber Brewing Co., which opened in March of this year. These are just two of about eight new breweries in the area that have opened this year alone. This summer is the perfect time to try them out and see what the local beer scene really has to offer.

Attend a literary picnic at Thurber House. In honor of Columbus’s bicentennial this year, local attraction Thurber House is paying homage to our local authors by hosting a literary picnic series. Taking place on the lawn of James Thurber’s home, attendees can bring their own food, picnic blankets and beverages while listening to readings from authors with a connection to the lovely state of Ohio. The first one is tonight at 5:30pm, and the honored author is Thurber himself. There will be periodic picnics through August 8th, so you can pick and choose which readings to attend. Here’s the complete schedule of literary picnics for the season.

One of the biggest benefits of living in Columbus, OH, is that there is always something to do, and this summer, there are plenty of unique activities happening to keep you busy. As an Exclusive Buyer’s Broker, I like to help relocating families get adjusted to their new community, and I think that getting out there and attending some local events is a great way to learn more about your new home.
