Metro Columbus home inventoryHome buyers in Metro Columbus continue to be challenged by lean home inventories. According to Columbus Realtors, the March 2016 inventory of homes for sale fell by 21% from a year ago. This gives Central Ohio the leanest home inventory on record. Meanwhile, the pace of home sales has been brisk, up 6% from last year.

New home construction is unlikely to add significant supply to the Central Ohio real estate market anytime soon. The Commerce Department reports that Midwest home starts fell by 25.4% percent from February 2016 to March 2016. Industry analysts suggest that weather conditions were at least part of the single-month decline. No matter the cause, the pace of new construction remains well behind home demand.
