Sept 10: Old Hilliardfest Art & Street Fair: Hilliard’s big day of fun! Enjoy arts and crafts, a car show, a sunflower show, live music, carnival rides and games, and delicious food.

Sept 14: Slice of Columbus: Great pizza for a great cause! The Columbus Commons hosts Central Ohio’s largest pizza event, featuring pizza from local shops, and a best pizza competition. Activities for the kids and live music throughout the day. Proceeds benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

July 1 – Red, White and BOOM! This City of Columbus Independence Day celebration features day-long events leading up to the regions’ most fantastic fireworks display. Enjoy delicious food, craft beers, live music, a children’s play area, a downtown parade, and the largest fireworks display for miles around. Downtown street closings begin at 11 am., with festivities beginning at noon. Parade at 6 pm, stepping off at the Main Street Bridge. Fireworks at 10 pm.

July 4^th – Worthington Family Picnic & Fireworks: Enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth on the lawn of Thomas Worthington High School. The celebration includes food, live music, games and much more! Event begins at 4:00 p.m. with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.

July 4^th – City of Dublin Independence Day Celebration: Pop-rock icon Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and KC and the Sunshine Band will headline the City of Dublin’s Independence Day Celebration. A full day of fun begins with parade at 11:00 a.m., live music begins at 4:30 p.m. All guests four and older will need a stadium wristband to enter. July 4^th – Upper Arlington Fourth of July Celebration: This all-day, family-friendly event begins with a parade at 9:00 a.m., with the “Party in the Park” following at 5:00 p.m., and an impressive fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.

July 8-10 – Ohio Wine Festival at North Market: Celebrating its 15^th year! The Ohio Wine Festival brings 20 of Ohio’s finest wineries together at North Market. Various ticket levels are available, starting at $25 in advance, $30 at the door. All admissions include a $5 North Market Food Voucher, 10 wine tasting tickets, and a souvenir wine glass, while supplies last. ID required, wine tasters must be 21 and older.

July 15 – A Taste of Worthington: This hometown, outdoor food festival has a block-party atmosphere while being family-friendly. The event promotes local restaurants, caterers, bakeries and others in the food industry. Play area for the kids includes a bounce-house and activities.

July 16-23 – Franklin County Fair: Located in Hilliard, this traditional Ohio county fair brings you classic family fun. Enjoy exhibits, farm animals, carnival rides and games, plus special grandstand entertainment daily.

July 22-24 – Columbus Jazz and Ribs Fest: 3 big days! Experience 3 stages of live music, featuring local, regional and international jazz artists. Savor the best bbq ribs, chicken and more from around the country. Free admission, buy your food and drink as you wish.

July 30 – Whitehall Food Truck and Fun Festival: Sample the wares of 25 different food vendors, while enjoying live music and entertainment on two stages. There is also an eclectic marketplace and a kid’s area.

LEGO® Travel Adventure at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI): This hands-on exhibit encourages young adventurers to choose a global destination, and build a LEGO® vehicle to get there. January 9-10. The Worthington Historical Society Antiques Show features high-quality antiques and collectibles, offered by some of the foremost antique dealers in the Midwest and Northeast. Capital City Half Marathon, May 2, 2015. 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Whether you are a participant or a spectator, the Capital City Half Marathon offers a great time. 16,000 runners and walkers participate in this annual event. The Columbus Commons Fun Zone and after-race “Champagne and Chocolate” are always crowd-pleasers. Enjoy food, drink, an energetic crowd, and a post-race concert. Parking is available at the Columbus Commons Garages, but you should register a spot in advance! Also arrive early; nearby roads will close for the race.

Columbus Asian Festival, May 23-24, 2015. 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This free event is an Asian cultural celebration filled with food, music, live performances, merchants, demonstrations and educational exhibits. Visually stunning and always entertaining, the Columbus Asian Festival draws around 50,000 visitors! Note, the Dragon Boat races take place on May 17.

Anthony Thomas Chocolates Tour, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This one-hour tour will take you through the wonders of this modern candy factory. You’ll see the art of candy making from start to finish in the 152,000 square-foot production area. Ready for chocolate? The tour conveniently ends at the 2,500 square-foot retail shop, where you can purchase treats to take home.

December 6 & 7, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Columbus welcomes the holidays with an extravaganza of lights, music and fireworks! Plenty of activities for the kids. Dickens of a Christmas – Ohio Village, Columbus

Wildlights – Columbus Zoo

That’s why if you could, then you should participate in Bexley Public Library’s Hunger Banquet this year. The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is designed to shed a new light on hunger and poverty worldwide. It’s truly an eye-opening experience. The activity is designed to show how luck is a large factor in whether or not you are able to enjoy a holiday meal in this country. For an educational and inspiring presentation, this is one community event you won’t want to miss this holiday season.

2012 Columbus Turkey Trot

A Columbus area tradition for over 20 years, the Turkey Trot is a beautiful, scenic run that starts and ends at Lane Avenue Shopping Center and takes you around the beautiful campus of The Ohio State University. The 5 mile or 2 mile run or walk is the perfect excuse to burn some of those extra calories before filling up on turkey and stuffing. You’re running to support the Easter Seals and the fight against autism, so your participation is for a great cause! The first 1,000 men and 1,000 women to finish the run will also get a Kroger Pumpkin Pie for their Thanksgiving dessert.

Part of my job as an Exclusive Buyer’s Broker is to help newcomers to the Columbus, OH metropolitan area get adjusted to their new home. It’s also a priority of mine to get them acquainted with their new neighborhood, and that DEFINITELY includes a list of places where they can get a celebratory treat. Here are a few places that you can enjoy:

In terms of ice cream, it’s fairly difficult to beat Columbus! Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream combines grass-fed Ohio milk with spices, fruits, and sometimes, vegetables. Named “The Best Ice Cream in America” over and over again, you don’t have to have been born and raised in Ohio to enjoy Jeni’s. It’s a local spot enjoyed by anyone who visits. Vienna Ice Café, Johnson’s, Graeter’s (you won’t find thicker ice cream anywhere else) and Mardi Gras are all ice creameries that offer their own take on a favorite dessert. You could do a tour of your new Columbus neighborhood based almost entirely on ice cream. Could you think of anything tastier?

If you prefer pastries, that’s not a problem. Pistacia Vera in the German Village provides a very French-esque pastry selection with some delicious coffee to boot. Clintonville’s Mozart Bakery offers a multitude of Austrian-style pastries bound to make your mouth water. Gluten free residents need not worry, either, Bexley’s Cherbourg Bakery offers ALL gluten free treats, and you can’t even tell the difference when you take a bite. Vegans in the area would enjoy Pattycake Bakery, 100% animal-friendly AND delicious.

Whether you prefer hearty pastries or scrumptious, smooth ice cream, you CAN find it made fresh and ready for consumption in the Columbus, OH area! You can enjoy these treats year-round WITHOUT the tricks.

This weekend, there are several end-of-summer celebrations happening everywhere from the city of Columbus itself to some of the area’s outlying communities. Here are some that will provide a rip-roaring good time for the whole family:

Actors’ Theatre: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Thursday, September 13th-Sunday, September 23rd
Columbus Commons
The Actors’ Theatre’s summer season is coming to an end this month, and you can enjoy its conclusion by viewing one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Featuring life-sized puppets as some of the characters, this production will have a kid-friendly element for families. Admission is free, so it’s a cost-effective way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Constitution Week Columbus Family Fair
Sunday, September 16th
Amelita Marolo Barn
As of this Sunday, it will have been 225 years since the U.S. Constitution was signed! The city of Upper Arlington wants you to celebrate with the whole community. Between 1:00-5:00pm, enjoy an entertaining afternoon of historical significance. Entertainment includes storytellers, food, games, raffles, Constitutional/American trading cards and the RMT Band. Free admission makes this celebration even more enticing. Celebrate one of the milestones of our nation’s history with the whole family.

Independents’ Day 2012
Saturday, September 15th
Downtown Columbus
Not to be confused with our nation’s birthday, this festival brings together independent artists, musicians, street performers and food trucks for a day of fun. Complete with four stages, all of which will be playing live music, you’ll have a number of indie bands to choose from for your listening pleasure. There’s also a designated kids area, so your youngster will have an awesome time too. Festivities start this Saturday at 11:00am and go until 11:00pm.

Whether you want to celebrate our nation’s history, enjoy some local talent or get lost in a Shakesperean masterpiece, there is something happening this weekend that will allow you to get outside and enjoy what’s left of summer in Columbus. Both the city itself and its surrounding areas have a lot to offer in the way of entertainment, so get out there and enjoy yourself.
