So you’ve gone through the entire search process with us and found the home of your dreams in the Columbus metropolitan area. Now, it’s time to start gathering up your entire life, packing it away in boxes, and gearing up to move in to your new home. This process can be as overwhelming and daunting as searching for the place you’re going to live. As an Exclusive Buyer’s Broker, we’ve watched many of our Buyer Clients go through a move, and it’s safe to say that it’s easy to overlook certain details throughout that process. That’s why we provide you a comprehensive 8 page “Moving Checklist” and a “Guide To Relocation Stress” in the Educated Buyer Notebook that you receive as a Buyer-Client.

Moving is one of those processes in which you want to make sure you remember everything. Forgetting a small detail can become a huge hassle and obstacle to getting settled in to your new home. Here are a few things that you should make sure you remember in order to have a seamless and stress-free transition into your new life in Columbus!

1. Do you have any hidden belongings? This might sound silly and self-explanatory, but do another couple of sweeps and run-throughs of your current home before you leave it for good. Check every nook and cranny for your belongings that may be hiding. It’s easy to forget to pack items tucked away in crawl spaces, attic spaces or small storage areas.

2. Have you returned any and all borrowed items? Throughout the years, you may have been holding on to that popcorn maker you got from your next door neighbor, or the ice cream scoopers from the family down the road. Tie up those loose ends and return those things as you pack. You’re going to have a lot of items to take with you as it is, so the more room you can save for YOUR things, the better.

3. Where are you going to sleep? You might have to move before your new home is ready to live in, or you’ll have packed up your bed and linens and have one more night in your home before leaving the next day. Make sure your sleeping arrangements are figured out. Leave out sleeping bags or blankets for your final night at home, or arrange for a hotel if you need to wait a few days after moving to get settled in. Pretend it’s a “stay-cation.”

4. Are all of your records in order? Between buying a new house and getting ready to leave your old one, you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget important things like medical, dental and school records. You will need to have these transferred to your new community as soon as possible in order to ensure that your transition is smooth.

These are just a few items that you MUST remember as you prepare to move to your new Columbus home. As an Exclusive Buyer’s Broker for the area, I have seen many families go through relocation, and I can say that forgetting the little details is what causes the most stress and anxiety. If you keep those things in the forefront of your mind, you’ll be less likely to forget them and have a seamless transition to your new home.

If you have any questions about buying a home in Columbus, don’t hesitate to contact me! I’d be happy to help in any way I can. I hope to hear from you soon.
